Cocek! Brass Band
Cocek! Brass Band
Cocek! Brass Band is the brainchild of trumpet player Sam Dechenne. The band performs original music by Dechenne based on the sounds of Eastern European brass bands. They are a 5-piece group (2 trumpets, trombone, tuba and bass drum) that rocks the house on a very regular basis. The band's members come from internationally touring ensembles like John Brown's Body and Itzhak Perlman and bring a blend of dance music with stellar improvisation
and melodies that evoke crazy dancing, contemplative thoughts and good times.
Somerville Symphony Orkestar
Somerville Symphony Orkestar
Blossoming from the Slavic heart of Greater Boston, the Somerville Symphony Orkestar is an all-original Eastern European Punk Funk band. Formed in 2009, the SSO has been constantly gaining notice from many of the music scenes in and around New England. With the success of their first album, the SSO has opened for such bands as the Rebirth Brass Band, the Stepkids, and Dudu Tassa & the Kuwaitis. They have also performed at many of New England's Festivals including Jerry Jam, Boston's First Night, and the Somerville Artbeat Festival.

Raised by a pack of gypsy badgers, band leader Joel Edinberg wrote the first SSO song after waking up in the middle of a random Tuesday night. Checking the next morning to see if the song was any good, he realized it was his duty to further form the band. After meeting guitarist and space cowboy Travis Pullman along with his buddy and former dictator, Richey Tally, the new team traveled the world to find the best musicians. Searching the mountains of Nepal, the rivers of the Amazon, and hitching a ride on Curiosity, the three eventually found the final musicians who would complete the amazing circus that is the SSO. Finally reaching out to Belarus and Syracuse, Matt Ellis and Pete Fanelli joined in after some serious musical persuasion. With their powers combined, the SSO beats Balkan, Klezmer, and traditional Russian music into a funk-punky pulp. Complex six-piece arrangements reign in the chaos only to explode into equal parts mosh-pit and horah.
Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band
Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band
Formed from the most talented deadbeats and drifters that could be rounded up, this group of raucous and rambunctious musicians will honk, wail, blow, beat, bounce, scream and serenade their way into your hearts. Playing anything that won't break after vigorous use; their instrumentation is a unique blend of brass, winds, violin, accordion, percussion and an eclectic rhythm section.
Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band combines the rich musical history of the circus and the vagabond peoples of Europe with the raw energy of avant-garde jazz and the irreverence and fun of today's Vaudeville & Steampunk for a sound that is somehow familiar yet like no other. Label them anyway you like! Call them Balkan steamfunk, call them avant world fusion, call them experimental big band, call them circus noise! They may be tough to sum up, but it's easy to tell you that they'll show you a good time!
