Evie Sands
EVIE SANDS is an undeniable "hidden treasure". She’s a versatile talent: who possesses a one-of-a-kind voice; she’s a naturally funky guitarist, admired songwriter, indelibly compelling performer, meticulous professional, intuitive and perceptive producer, bountiful band mate, and accomplished musician’s musician. No less than Dusty Springfield cited Evie as favorite singer and immortal Johnny Cash described her thusly:

"She’s got the stardust in her eyes, she’s got silver bells in her voice and you’d think she’s got electricity in her fingers the way she plays that guitar left-handed and upside down."

Evie Sands is six-decades into her mythical career, recording as a teen for Lieber and Stoller’s Blue Cat label as part of the Brill Building legacy, weathered infamous Music Biz ups and downs and continues on with the DIY current release of her captivating marblized-vinyl EP, “Shine For Me” just released as part of 2017 Record Store Day. Evie's resilient career has managed to traverse the musical spectrum from Tin Pan Alley, teenage package tours, National TV exposure, major label hits, cult fandom, Northern Soul idolatry, multiple Indie label #1's to digital DIY with her own synthesis of soulfully sophisticated pop. Her artistry is cross-generationally deemed “timeless” by the varied likes of Barbara Streisand, Franki Valli, Gladys Knight, Cher, Tom Jones, Karen Carpenter, Missy Elliot, Beth Orton, Jazmine Sullivan, Lucinda Williams, Belle & Sebastian and Beck – all fans who have covered her catalog.

“Shine For Me” represents a pinnacle for Evie, showcasing her considerable gifts in full flight with her uniquely appealing cocktail; it's a masterfully delivered 6-song original EP that delivers a fresh mixology of Evie's best work. Her fluid “wrong-way guitar” probes her shifting rhythms and that signature liquid voice wraps around her infectious melodies with intimate sincerity and innate sensuality. Evie’s recordings and performances are all too rare events and this ONCE Somervile appearance, coming fresh from the prestigious Ponderosa Stomp, will be her first Boston area date since 2000. Past, present and future and the sheer breath of her multi-faceted skill-set will be on display; Evie proving to be as vibrant and vital as ever; seemingly forever young with that emotive voice, indelible songs, tasty play, and bewitchingly artful arrangements. Be forewarned: Evie Sands is delightful and like-able in person and live – she’s a formidable force to behold.

Smart, lyrical pop partially recorded at Abbey Road: big hooks with sprinkles of psychedelia, power pop and acoustic instrumentation. Informed by classic artists from the 60s and 70s, but thoroughly contemporary in theme.
